This topic helps us understand the present because it shows us how strong countries allies are to each other. The Suez Canal Crisis demonstrated how much countries depend on each other which is still the case today. Britain and France backed out of their plan to attack Egypt because America did not support them. This shows how strong and how big of an impact allies and countries have on each other. This crisis is also a good example of Canada's advancement as an independent country. After becoming it's own country and coming out of Britain's control, this is one of the first events that shows Canada's independence. Canada made a decision to not pick sides and get into the war and that shows that we were not influenced so much by other countries. Canada went against the other countries and went along with their own decisions. Lester B. Pearson's involvement and success with this crisis brought more respect to Canada as a country. This conflict has made people realize that Canada does not rely on other countries and are more self interested. This crisis showed how Canada is a socially just country and how we are always trying to stop wars between other countries. It showed that we act as a neutral country and that Canada try's to bring peace and is not for war. The Suez Canal Crisis tipped the scales for Canada.
